Service - Operations and Maintenance of the unit
Q. What is the nature and frequency of ongoing maintenance?
A. Servicing is done by replacing the disposable nets following CSO
events in which sufficient quantities of floatables have been captured.
This is usually determined by periodic visual inspection.
In-line and end-of-pipe systems are serviced with a boom
truck with the capacity to lift a maximum weight of 1,000 pounds. Good safety
practice requires a minimum crew of two people. The change out procedure can
usually be completed quickly - from 30 minutes to two hours - depending on the
number of nets.
Floating systems are serviced in several ways. Skimmer boats
or other work boats can be used for water based servicing. The full nets are
floated out the back end of the units and are lifted onto the work boat for
transport to an off loading facility. Shore based servicing can be done using a
dedicated material handling system at the site or by a boom truck with
sufficient reach.
The system itself requires no maintenance. It is constructed
from type 316 stainless steel, fiberglass, and concrete for extra long life –
in excess of 20 years.
Q. How are nets disposed of?
A. The used nets are disposed of by transporting them to a licensed
landfill. This can often be integrated with the removal of similar
materials from the bar screens at the treatment works.
Nets may need to be changed as frequently as 30 to 60 times
per year depending on site-specific conditions. Where floatable volumes are
lower, nets should be changed at least once per month to remove captured waste.
Q. What is the Operations and Maintenance cost?
A. System operation and maintenance requirements are moderate and vary
depending on the site. The ongoing servicing cost of Netting TrashTrap®
technology is almost always less than that of other technologies.
Q. Who does the net change-out and waste disposal?
A. Systems can be maintained by the in-house maintenance staff or contracted
out. Fresh Creek Technologies is an experienced service supplier
and will be pleased to provide a quotation for operation and maintenance
service.
Q. Can nets be re-used?
A. Disposable nets are intended for single use only for sanitary and
economic reasons and for ease of maintenance.
Q. Where do I source replacement nets?
A. Netting TrashTrap® replacement nets can be ordered directly
from Fresh Creek Technologies, Inc. at (973) 237-9099 or fax (973)
237-0744.
