Floating Netting TrashTrap®
The Floating Netting TrashTrap® is a modular pontoon
structure configured to accommodate one or more nets as required by the site-specific
parameters of flow, velocity and floatables volume. The system is installed
in the water facing the mouth of the outfall in a way that accommodate water
level changes due to tides or flooding. Weighted side and funnel curtains made
of heavy duty PVC coated polyester fabric direct the flow from the pipe into
the mouth of the nets.
Rigid struts with flexible couplings can be used to hold the system in place
while allowing for water level changes. Pontoons from the face of the bulkhead
to the system can also be used.
There are several proven methods of attaching the system to the headwall of
the outfall. Pilings with slides to allow the system to rise and fall with water
level changes can be used to hold the system in place.
Units with anchoring cables have been used to handle up to 25 feet of water
level change.
The system frame and support members are constructed of type 316 stainless
or galvanized steel shapes, cut, welded to ASTM standards, and sized to withstand
the loads imposed on the system by flow and wave, wind, or ice forces.
The flotation for the system is US Coast Guard Approved closed cell foam. It
is located within the system to provide the buoyancy necessary for the desired
freeboard and to keep the system level.
The top surface of the system is an industrial grade FRP non-skid safety grating,
securely fastened to the unit with type 316 stainless steel hardware. This grating
is hinged over the nets for servicing and is lockable.
Safety handrails with access gates to OSHA standards are provided when required.
